Every Dog Has Its Day
At Tropical Dog Training, we understand that every dog is unique and has different training needs. That’s why we offer two specialized training programs to meet your specific requirements. Our first program is in-home training, where our friendly trainers will come to your home and work with your dog in their familiar environment. But for those who prefer a more hands-off approach, we have our board and train program.
This program is designed for the busy individual who wants the professional trainer to do the work for them. We will pick up your dog from your home and bring them to our air-conditioned facility for three weeks of intensive training. During this time, your furry friend will have access to a large fenced-in turf grass play area, daily walks for exercise, and daily training sessions with our highly skilled trainers. We follow head trainer Steve’s unique method, called “Positive E-forcement,” to engage your dog in fun and games while teaching them obedience commands with lots of love.
Long-Term Success of Sustained Trained Behaviors
One of the main benefits of our board and train program is that we are not only teaching your dog to perform behaviors but also proactively instructing persistent good behaviors. We do this by providing a comprehensive initial consultation before your dog’s training begins. During this consultation, we will get to know you and your dog, your goals and expectations, and your dog’s specific quirks and issues. Based on this information, we will create an individualized training plan for your dog to ensure that they receive the most successful training experience possible.

Common Dog Board & Train FAQs
It is an intensive, three-week “bootcamp” where your dog stays at our professional, air-conditioned facility. During this time, they receive daily training sessions from our expert trainers to build foundational obedience and replace unwanted behaviors with positive habits.
Our standard board and train program is three weeks long. This duration is designed to provide enough time to teach new behavior in a low distracting environment and then generalize these behaviors to real life situations with multiple distractions present.
Your dog will stay at our facility in Stuart or Bradenton, Florida. The facility is fully air-conditioned and features a large, fenced-in play area for exercise and outdoor training.
We use a unique method developed by our head trainer, Steve, called “Positive E-forcement.” This approach focuses on making training fun and engaging—like a game—using positive reinforcement to teach new behavior and then enforcing those behaviors with a mild consequence provided by an e-collar.
After three weeks, your dog will know all the important commands including:
- Sit and Down
- Come (Recall) – Come to me and stay with me
- Wait
- Heel (Leash walking) and Loose Leash Walking
- Place (Going to a designated spot)
- Off (means “Avoid Leave Alone”)
- Quiet – stops barking
- Release – releases command like place, wait and come
Yes. In addition to obedience, we proactively address “nuisance” behaviors such as jumping, excessive barking, chewing, escaping, stealing items, and pulling on the leash.
Yes! To make the process as convenient as possible for busy owners, we will pick up your dog from your home and bring them back once the program is complete.
This is a common concern. Our program includes a proprietary process we call “Transfer of Control” once this transfer takes place the dog will listen to you as though you trained them yourself. We ensure the transition is seamless by educating you on how to communicate with your dog and maintain the training. We also provide ongoing support and follow-up to ensure long-term success.
This program is suitable and works with any dog! The owner’s circumstances, more than the dog’s characteristics (time, patients, skill), determine whether a board and train program is appropriate.
For the safety of all dogs in our care, we require up-to-date vaccination records (typically Rabies, DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus), and Bordetella). We also require a negative fecal test and current heartworm/flea/tick prevention is strongly recommended. Influenza and Lepto (Leptospirosis ) are recommended but not required.
Your dog will receive daily walks and supervised play sessions in our outdoor area. Training is balanced with plenty of physical activity and “love” from our staff to ensure they are happy and well-adjusted during their stay.
No. Our program focuses on building understanding and confidence—not fear. Most dogs leave boot camp calmer, more focused, and easier to live with than when they arrived.
If a dog is overwhelmed, we adjust. Results should never come at the cost of trust.
